Abstrakti

We wanted to exhibit an artefact that supports the audience in understanding our argument through its materiality. The installation presented a configuration from our data discussed in the abstract, and allowed the audience to bodily engage with it and thus give an insight into how data can be analysed without reducing it to information. It was be a full scale, yet bare minimum model of a section of the kitchen platform in Particle Board (1.2m X 0.765m X 0.81m) with props and utensils to guide the interaction. The participants learned from the running video and engaged in the material details of marinating the fish. The placard said: Her grandmother used to cook fish on a wood fire earthen stove sitting on the kitchen floor. Poonam is now executing the same recipe in her contemporary kitchen. We observe this event through video and then analyse it by iterative performances. The data in this case lives only in learned physical movements of the body in a configuration with other material bodies. Each iteration reshapes the data, taking a step forward in design process.
