The Power of Design

Perhaps ‘change’ is the defining and most radical potential of design! Unlike other disciplines, such as history and the natural or social sciences, design moves beyond accounting for what is, today, and what came before. Design, instead, imagines and constructs what might be in the future. Certainly, design in disciplinary and cultural terms must relate to past convention, current conditions and enduring social norms. However, designers must always project beyond the scope of a discrete design act or artifacts in the present, making decisions and giving forms that determine possible futures.
