Abstrakti
The effects of 3 coatings on the emissions of pinewood building materials (10% and 16% moisture contents) were monitored in chamber tests, following ISO and M1 standard protocols. The volatile organic compounds (VOCs) collected onto Tenax TA (on days 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28) were identified and quantified with thermal desorber-gas chromatography- mass spectrometry (TD-GC-MS). In addition, Sep-Pak XPosure cartridges were used to collect carbonyl samples (on days 1, 3 and 28) analyzed with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The results showed that the emissions from coated-pinewood were lower than the sum of the emissions from coating on glass and uncoated pinewood. In conclusion, coating the pinewood samples decreased the VOC and carbonyl emissions originating from the pinewood substrate.
