N2 - Recently Ram et al., 2018 published a study, based on the earlier Greenpeace report Ram et al. (2017), on the electricity generation costs from different sources. Commendably authors provided some details of their computations in the supplementary spreadsheet. The cost of energy services is a serious consideration in combination with the need to decarbonize the global economy rapidly. However, the article by Ram et al. seems to have some shortcomings which should be fixed before further conclusions can be drawn from it. I outline some reasons for my concern below.
