Oscar Kleineh worked his way from a German-Finnish family with several hotels and restaurants in the 19th Century Helsinki to the Art Academy of St Petersburg. After discovering Brittany among the first artists heading there from Finland he studied and worked in France. During his journeys along the coast of Norway and the Atlantic Ocean he explored and documented the seafaring, the cities and the changes in livelihood during an era of increasing leisure and expanding tourism.
