Abstrakti

This chapter focuses on the role of narratives in process organization studies. While narratives are often used in processual organization studies, ambiguity and even confusion prevails in how they are understood and mobilized. We identify and elaborate on four narrative perspectives: narrative representation, narrative construction, narrative deconstruction, and narrative agency. Each of these perspectives is based on a distinctive understanding of narratives and their role in processual organizational analysis. We also offer directions for future research with a discussion of narrative temporality, intertextuality, multimodality and sociomateriality, and mediatization.
