Abstrakti

The following content attempts to provide a kaleidoscopic overview of material cultural and technological development in Finland. The analysis in non-linear. It is also non taxonomic, non comprehensive and non conventional. To some it may appear as non coherent. The purpose of this approach is to enable the introduction of alternative perspectives.

Man-Matter-Metamorphosis is the constant equation of this study. It refers to a dialectic behaviour between the three terms,–matter has the capacity to transform man as much as man to transform matter. An unprecedented collection brings into focus the development of technique and material culture from a primal origin: the end of the ice age, the arrival of man and first material interactions. Through an edition of content spanning 10 000 years, the following examines the unique engagement of society towards ecosystem, energy sources and matter. This timeless view presents the legacy of values and logic that has proven relevant to Finland’s continuous ingenious capacity towards innovation.
