Interior objects, the chair in particular, have been recurring symbols in my paintings. They emerged from a need to understand my complex relationship with home, and make sense of a traumatic past. Thus, drawing on abstract traditions of painting, much of my early work evoked a psychoanalytic space. Now, in a world changed by a pandemic, people are forced to spend more time indoors and adapt to new conceptions of togetherness, intimacy, and home. In Just Come Over, I find myself returning and reexamining the issues that inspired my practice many years ago, playing with abstract space and form – in addition to more recent inquires, such as the figure.
