This paper presents a recent progress in how influence of low-scattering, low-band antennas can be evaluated for high-band phased arrays. Measured results of a virtually steered phased array are presented in three cases: the array without a disturbance, and the array obstructed by a low-scattering dipole and a reference half-wave dipole. The measurement setup is modeled after an identification-friend-or-foe (IFF) system in an aircraft radar. The measured results of the array show that the low-scattering dipole causes on average 17.2dB less disturbance in the far-field response than the reference dipole. The disturbance caused by the reference dipole will limit the obtainable minimum side-lobe level when non-uniform array excitation schemes are used, while the low-scattering dipole does not cause any deterioration in the studied Chebyshev-excitation scheme.
