This paper reports utilization of Hot Electron-induced Electrochemiluminescence (HECL) on inexpensive disposable printed electrode chips for the first time. HECL method typically utilizes luminophores as labels in sensitive bioaffinity-based assays. Here we demonstrate HECL, as a novel approach by using a widely used fluorescent probe - fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) as luminophore label for human C-reactive protein (hCRP)assay. Our work results in a combined benefit of the integration of HECL on disposable electrode chip and the utilization of the low-cost FITC, resulting in successful real-world heterogeneous immunoassay development, and thus paving the way for being used in point of care devices.
