    Abstrakti

This article seeks to contribute to ongoing debates regarding the unique character of new media as placeholder of hybrid forms and in relation to intermedia. Material and historical aspects of new media are discussed. Intangible characteristics are brought forth in relation to their reification through the interface. As liminal intermediary between the human and the artificial, the interface seems to be more about regulation and exchange than a thing itself. This can be appreciated in the entrainment that emerges via interaction. It is in the in-between spaces of the interface that intermedia informs the new media. Two case studies of new media artworks are presented to illuminate the points discussed in the theoretical part.
