The Fire and Light workshop was a journey to exciting method of art. Fire is a basic element of human culture and has a deep value among the people in north. It brings light and warmth during the dark and cold winter. Fire and light have also had important roles in Nordic myths. In this workshop students learned about making art using light and fire as tools of expression. Working methods emphasized cooperation and communication between different nationalities from Nordic countries. The climax of the workshop was a celebration as the creations of the course are brought in public. The course consisted of two parts: attending an intensive workshop in Telemark, Norway, and working in Optima learning environment in the Internet. The course began with preliminary tasks that function as introduction to the theme. The tasks were made in groups in the Optima environment and supervised by a local teacher. Working in the Internet continued after the workshop, when the participants reflected on their learning processes. The workshop takes place from 8th until 13th of March 2008. The distance learning period begins in February. Taking part in the Fire and Light workshop requires active attendance in both parts of the course, i.e. preliminary distance working period and intensive part in Telemark.
