Varicose veins are common ailment that effects a significant portion of the general populous. Current treatments require a significant amount of resources in the form of money and time; as well as patient discomfort.
This paper presents a concept of an automated mechanochemical ablation catheter. Ablation of the intimal layer of the vein is achieved with physical contact from the mechanical device. This ablation, combined with the drug, forces the vein to seize and close itself permanently. The device is designed to improve functionality and efficiency, decrease pain and improve ablation characteristics while maintaining and/or increasing success rates. The device automates the retraction of the ablation mechanism, pressure regulation of the ablation system and the drug delivery system.
