Costumes make and are made through connections – with other artists, between bodies and materials, and with audiences and the world around us. These multiple and often surprising linkages that costume facilitates address a wide range of practices and approaches, including: connecting cultures through costume; collaborative links; social, political and creative connections; visible and invisible relations between audiences and costume; costume dramaturgies as connective materiality between bodies, materials and environments; interrelationships between production contexts, processes and outcomes; and affinities between costume theory and practice. Chaired by Professor Sofia Pantouvaki, Head of the Critical Costume platform, this panel presents the latest practice and research trends from the global costume community. Bringing together participants from three continents, the panel aims to unpack the diverse ways in which costume impacts our lives as a creative medium.
