At Midnight There Was No Border

Tutkimustuotos: Taiteellinen julkaisu ja ICT-julkaisuvertaisarvioitu

A group exhibition with Aziz Sohail and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

My artwork included: CharBagh (Four Gardens), a mixed-media installation that draws upon accounts of earth, heaven, and hell from Islamic sacred texts. Each space is described in detail, in particular, heaven, where four gardens are described with abundant fruit, flowing waters, and lounging virgins. In an attempt to queer these ideas, the installation mimics the hierarchical composition of earth, heaven, and hell – and through the voice of a gay Iraqi refugee, questions the place of gay suffering within this narrative.

The installation is made of mixed-media paintings, watercolor studies of plants, video: an interview with an Iraqi refugee: Gay narrations of home, digital photographs printed on fine art paper, and black thread.
