We have studied the coadsorption of carbon monoxide and potassium on Co(OOOl) using XPS, TDS, LEED, XPD, and ISS. Potassium-induced dissociation of CO was not detected. Two ordered coadsorption structures were observed, namely (2 × 2)-(CO + K) and (2 × 2)-(2CO + K). The XPD results show that the CO molecules are adsorbed perpendicular to the surface. According to the ISS measurements the K atoms form the outermost layer of the coadsorption structure.
