Computer aided control system design (CACSD) has become very common during the last ten years. Even the use of these software packages for the design of the control strategies which use the conventional Single Input Single Output (SISO) controllers has shown to be a powerful tool for a control engineer. In the current paper a simulation study of control strategies for the flotation process is presented. The derivation of a dynamic model to simulate the flotation process is described. The interfacing of this simulator with the ONSPEC control software package is discussed. Differences between the classical PID-control strategies and the expert strategy designed using this software for the flotation process are discussed.
