Äänijälki is a service for enhancing the experience of visiting a museum or an exhibition. The core idea of Äänijälki is to enable communication between visitors who are not sharing the experience in the same physical space and/or at the same point of time. At this first stage of the project Äänijälki was mainly targeted for Finnish speaking visually impaired people but in the future there are plans to expand the target group to sighted people as well. Äänijälki is a tailored application running in a Pocket PC environment in a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) device. In addition to the PDA it includes a web portal through which the material recorded with the PDA can be accessed from distance. At this stage of the project a tactile touch screen was used to enable visually impaired people to use the application.
