The use of recycled plastic in road engineering: from waste to an alternative paving material

Projektin yksityiskohdat

Tiivistelmä

Roads are essential for the everyday life and economy of a country. However, road construction requires enormous amounts of nonrenewable natural resources. This project aims to use recyclable resources like plastic to design roads that are more environmentally friendly and less expensive, capable of providing a better service to our society. Laboratory experimentation, production data, and mathematical models will be used to conduct the research in the premises of the pavement laboratory at Aalto University and with international collaborators. We expect to advance our knowledge of alternative and innovative road materials and their characterization to provide society with a more sustainable, better-designed and more efficient road network and a more comfortable driving experience while being kinder to our living environment.
