IMPRESS Integration of efficient downstreaM ProcessEs for Sugars and Sugar alcohols

IMPRESS is heading towards a fossil-free future with the European know-how. IMPRESS will integrate selected key technologies to refine plant-based material into multiple sustainable chemicals and materials that can replace fossil-based products. Related technologies will be substantially improved in order to provide a better future for both us today and the generations to come.

Aim

IMPRESS will create a new hybrid biorefinery process. It means that we will research and combine selected key technologies and use them to refine renewable resources such as forestry and agricultural residues into multiple sustainable chemicals and materials that can replace fossil-based products. The aim is to find ways to produce sustainable chemicals and materials.

Concept

IMPRESS integrates disruptive upstream and downstream technologies developed by the project partners. IMPRESS concept uses 2nd generation biomass and turns process streams into value added products and green chemicals to replace existing fossil-based products.

Benefits of the IMPRESS concept:

develop a pretreatment technology that utilizes several biomass types use 2nd generation biomass and residues that do not compete with food chain utilize all process streams and turn them into high-value products and green chemicals ensure effective integration between upstream and downstream processing steps instead of optimizing individual technologies or process blocks integrate novel technologies which are already in demonstration scale and upscale them
