Welfare City Futures: HELSINKI

Aktiviteetti: Työpajan, paneelin, session, tutoriaalin tai tapahtuman järjestäminen

Description

A seminar with KADK's Urbanism & Societal Change programme from Copenhagen discussing the future and challenges of the Nordic model of welfare urbanism. Rem Koolhaas suggests that “the traditional European values of liberty, equality and fraternity have been replaced in the 21st century by comfort, security and sustainability.” But where is the Nordic model heading? We'll bring together some of Aalto’s brightest minds to share their perspectives on Helsinki’s history, development, current challenges and opportunities, as they relate to the Nordic model of welfare urbanism. How are the traditional pillars of welfare challenged by contemporary dynamics such as by climate -, demographic - and technological change, globalisation and counter-globalisation processes? We’ll hear a series of perspectives on housing, landscape, digital tools for participation and more. On the behalf of our guests from Copenhagen, architects Deane Simpson and Charles Bessard will also give a glimpse into their studio’s related work.
