DescriptionTouching Ground explores how we can work with clay to bring attention to the body and senses. This two-day course led by Helen Felcey and Priska Falin is part of their ongoing collaboration as artist-researchers, exploring their shared interest in clay, the subtle senses and the body. Falin & Felcey’s work concentrates on the tactile experiences of clay as an embodied material.
During the course, attendees will discover how to work with clay in new ways – ways which emphasise ‘being with’ material and explore body-work with clay. The studio space will be set up to support individuals’ body-work and to share excerpts and research from Touching Ground. Through dwelling with the material, the sessions will attempt to tune into the clay’s qualities along with the subtler aspects of our individual sensory experience. Exploring clay as a supportive material draws us into the tactile world and the body.
This course aims to encourage personal discovery about body awareness through clay work – understanding how to come back to the body and explore the meaning of touching ground. The pace will be slow and steady, giving time to enjoy the experience and find personal approaches, which can be explored beyond the workshop.
No prior experience of clay is required for this course. If you are interested in how clay might support your wellbeing or the wellbeing of others, this course will provide a good starting point.
