Description
Artist Mari Keski-Korsu presents online her ongoing artistic research and practice on sauna as a participatory performance and more-than-human ritual in polycrisis. Baltic-Finnic bathing traditions’ animistic past is manifested e.g. in folk healing and incantations whereas the contemporary sauna bathing institution can be defined as a ritual for wellbeing, relaxation and socialising. However, the hydrobodies of humans and all the critters become-with in the steam of sauna and thus the changing environments are embodied. What kind of microbial life, chemical and plant matters are making leaps in time and space that can be encountered within the water media and as a current gift-economical relation?
