Description
AbstractThe artists of today can be found working in all types of spaces and activities beyond the so-called ‘gallery cube’. This is fitting considering the realities of our precious, chaotic, and complex multimodal world. Using examples of digital cultural heritage created for virtual reality, in my presentation I will first examine design as an activity that is open, non-linear and, often seemingly random. My desire is to unravel myriad instances and events as they become entangled in the objects of memory.
In its charter on the preservation of digital heritage, UNESCO defined digital cultural heritage as creative expression and information assets increasingly produced, distributed, accessed and maintained in digital form. I will propose that we should also consider design as a dialogue with ‘Otherness’. Only in this manner can that form communicate its full potential creating new sustainable legacies.
