Co-organizer for the Center for Arts, Design, and Social Research January residency, an investigation of the complex entanglement of place and experience, which emphasized Indigenous knowledges, and the urgency of generating a dialogue between diverse ways of knowing. In particular, the residency addressed the ways that the concept “human” is predicated on a separation from the non-human, and the role it plays in the systematic destruction of oceans, land, air and near space.
The residency convened artists and researches from across the globe with a shared commitment to diverse cultures, ideas and practices. These included both the Center for Arts, Design and Social Research and Faculty Fellows, as well as 10 artists and scholars from Merida’s community. Public events during the residency included an exhibition and evening of performances, Constellation Eek’o’ob CAD+SR Jo’_Exposición, at Galeria El Caimito. We were joined by new Faculty Fellows Jodi Rave Spotted Bear and Dr. Raul Moarquech Ferrera-Balanquet, and visiting scholars included Mayan linguist Felipe Castillo Tzec and Cuban curator Dyelsi Jimenez.
