I was invited to give a workshop on "Digital Musical Interactions" --- ------------------------------------------------------------
Music is an outstanding example of cultural and mediated practices that has often been at the forefront of research in emerging technologies. Today digital technologies and advanced computational features, eg. machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) tools are shaping our relationships with music as well as enabling new possibilities of utilising new musical instruments and interfaces. In this workshop, we question, what does our relationship with music and musical instruments look like today? Through themed discussions, we will question further how today’s music practice, using these advanced digital technologies, is different from earlier practices? Where do current practices sit within the long history of Music Technology and Computer Music? In smaller working groups we will discuss further how computation transforms our musical norms, habits, language and intentions, impacting widely upon how music is performed, experienced, shared and distributed.
