Abstract

One of the great physicists of all time, James Clerk Maxwell, held his first inaugural lecture at the age of 25 in Marischal College, Aberdeen, Scotland. In it the new professor of natural philosophy made clear that metaphysics has an important role in physics. Here is a translation into Finnish of a part of that lecture.
