Abstract

The action is simple, printing a set of t-shirts which have phrases that people have said in a conversation or in reaction towards something that has happened. There is no context for the text in the t-shirts other than knowing that someone said what it’s written on them.

These phrases are not meant to be anything, nor mean something; they are not inspirational and many, if not all, might not even be relevant. Yet, they ended up on a t-shirt, they have become visible for the other to read, and who knows, maybe even relate. They all end up becoming something else than random words that have been said by someone at some point and got lost in the midst of time and relevance.

These sentences could have been presented in many ways, posted in a social media, printed within a poster, done as labels or stickers to distribute around. However, the thought of having this set as t-shirts, something that a person wears, allows the possibility to engage in a dialogue with someone directly (the person looking at the t-shirt, and the person wearing the t-shirt). Not that that is something that is supposed to happen, but if the spectator happens to have a question about what is reading at least there is someone there to engage to.

The t-shirts will be in the gallery Third Space on 15 August from 18:00 - 20:30 in their hangers and waiting for anyone who wants to take one (for free) and wear it away.

This happening is part of our curatorial programme 2019-2020 supported by TAIKE.
