    Abstract

This paper presents a method to calculate the vibrations of rotating electrical machines when the magnetostriction and the magnetomechanical coupling are of interest. The method is applied to two kinds of machines (cage induction and synchronous machine). The computations use dynamic numerical models for both magnetic and displacement fields in the machines. Moreover, the method is experimentally validated with a special device. The results of the computations and measurements show that the magnetostriction affects the vibrations of both machines, whereas the magnetomechanical coupling is considerable only in large stators
