Abstract

“Turning Points” is an exhibition on the history and present day of Finnish-American academic exchanges. It was produced jointly by the ASLA-Fulbright Alumni Association and the Fulbright Center to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Alumni Association. The exhibition was designed by Cvijeta Miljak and Hanna Siira from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, and the production was supported by the Public Affairs Section of the American Embassy in Helsinki, and by private donations.

The exhibition tells the story of Finnish- American exchanges within the ASLA- Fulbright program. The Finnish Fulbright Program aims to promote mutual understanding between Finns and Americans by giving students, scholars, and professionals opportunities to study, teach, and conduct research in one another’s countries and to learn about their culture and people. Over three thousand Finns and more than a thousand Americans have participated in the exchange over the years.

The exhibition opening was in Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, and it was initially on display at the Fulbright Center in Helsinki. Later the exhibition toured Finnish and American organizations and educational institutions.

My work comprised exhibition concept design and visual identity, and Hanna Siira designed the communication materials for the exhibition.
