Abstract

The demand of cleaner steel is an ever-increasing trend. In order to respond to the increasing quality demands, more attention has been paid to tundish, since it is the last reactor, where significant metallurgical operations can still be done. Delivering steel with correct quality, composition, and temperature for casting requires physical, chemical, and thermal control and optimization of tundish operations. In this chapter, an overview of tundish process as an important part of a continuous casting process for producing high-quality steel will be given. The chapter focuses especially on the means to prevent the formation of inclusions in tundish and on phenomena that affect the removal of inclusions from steel to slag.
