Abstract

In building projects status information is still often exchanged through phone calls, emails, or infrequent batch updates. The potential benefits of uniform, correct, and timely status information are lost. We study the opportunities that current ICT provides for status information exchange and their match with the requirements and constraints of building projects: loose coupling, automatic configuration, and low adoption threshold. Three exchange methods based on modern ICT solutions are studied: Cloud folder, ERP/ESB and Distributed Publish/Subscribe. The methods are explained and their properties are compared. The impact of BIM, complex information flows, linking of identifiers, push interaction are discussed.
