Abstract
The role of art schools for children and youth as an afternoon activity actor is the potential investigated through two cases in this article. Three main theme areas appeared in an interview study were: an economic-administrative, an art and culture and a pedagogy. The pedagogical theme was further structured into three sub-themes: the concept of childhood and leisure, spaces, pedagogy and empowerment. A number of further research topics were opened up and educational expectations for art education regarding early childhood education and entrepreneurship raised. The afternoon activities can be seen as social service delivery. This service production requires courage from the art schools and requires commitment from the municipalities and cities for resource policy.
