Abstract

Connections and joints play key roles in Design for Deconstruction (DfD) and modular construction, which are the two innovations making building construction sustainable. With the help of the methodologies of systematic design, principles and methods for life-cycle design of sustainable cold-formed steel structures especially connections and joints are put forward first. Within this framework, the sustainability of commonly used connections and joints are then assessed; and the currently available and future trends of innovative solutions of sustainable connections and joints are further discussed.
