Abstract
Physisorption of a Lennard-Jones fluid on a solid substrate is investigated by applying the theory of inhomogeneous fluids recently developed by Nieminen and Ashcroft. Density profiles, correlation functions and structure factors are obtained. In particular we study the gas-phase adsorption isotherms and seek evidence for the wetting transition and the thin-thick film transition. Comparisons with previous works are made.
