Standalone Electrical Storages as part of the Network System in Metropolitan Area in Finland

The paper provides an overview on potential network alternative investments like standalone electrical storages integrated close to Helsinki metropolitan office areas, suitable storage technologies and feasible idea for future corporate communities to emerge. The calculation was provided for the selected office areas: Pasila-Vallilla-Sörnäinen-Kalasatama (Helsinki), Keilaniemi-Otaniemi-Tapiola- Niittykumpu-Olari-Matinkylä (Espoo) and Aviapolis (Vantaa). The author formed prime theoretical study on potential of standalone storages to integrate into the grid as part of distribution network in the business areas with possibility of Corporate Electrical Communities to be formed. The method was composed with support of Long-range Energy Alternatives Planning System (LEAP) software taking into account both growth of the population around the selected areas and jobs there by 2030. Besides, the result was expected to confirm the necessity of the distribution companies to own the standalone electrical storages as part of the network system.
