SINR Analysis of Non-Regenerative Multihop Links with Asymptotically Large Hop Count

Abstract

We study the physical-layer performance of a wideband multihop system in which a long chain of amplify-and-forward relays is used for routing orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols from a source to a destination. Especially, the symbols are modulated in the source and demodulated in the destination while the relays simply forward respective waveforms with scalar amplification. We first conclude that the power-delay profile (PDP) of the effective end-to-end channel in such a system converges to a specific bell-shaped function when each per-hop channel in the link is modelled with a uniform or exponential PDP. We then derive new closed-form expressions for evaluating the signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) of the system in the case of an asymptotically large hop count.
