Abstract

A collaboration project between Aalto University and Tama Art University textile and fashion design students presents perspectives on cultural exchange and sustainable design thinking.

In the exhibition Shared stories, Aalto University textile and fashion students and staff showcase concepts and works inspired by dialogue of sustainable design in Finnish and Japanese cultures. The experiments include textiles and garments dyed with traditional Japanese indigo plant and Finnish woad, which is an indigo plant cultivated in Finland. The works were designed in workshops held in Aalto University and Tama Art University during summer 2019 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Finland.
