Abstract
The fifth Pori Biennale, Visitors, takes place in July in Eastern Helsinki. The site-specific exhibition explores the unique area from Meri-Rastila 90’s suburban architecture to the protected nature of Kallahdenniemi consisting of a beautiful ridge landscape and fragile underwater meadows. The theme, Visitors, refers not only to the producers of the exhibition – artists, researchers, guests, and curators – but also to the inhabitants, traces and signs left by the living and non-living. The exhibition looks at historical layers and how dreams, values and ideologies from different times and eras manifest themselves in the landscape. The past and the present and their ghosts appear in the neighbourhood that is currently in the center of many contradictory plans, hopes and wishes from protecting nature to increasing productivity and growth.
