Abstract

The concept of course and a corresponding exhibition is PLACE in its metaphysical and concrete manifestations. The first week of the Design Exploration and Experimentation course was spent seeking inspiration in Koli national park in north Karelia. The group of students and tutors explored the surroundings of Koli through several workshops. These experimental workshops challenged the students to question their previous understanding about place. During the seven week period the students kept a working diary as a documentation method but also as a way to elaborate their thinking. Each student developed their own viewpoint and realised their concepts in different scales. Others explored the actual physical concept of place and others focused on a mental state. The exhibition is the final result of the course.
