Abstract

An important question in the study of social systems is how cooperation can emerge collectively from the individual self interests. Simplified mathematical models that already assume simple automatic responses of individuals to stimuli can reproduce non-trivial effects in the observed behavior. Statistical mechanics has been applied to coarse-grained models of physical systems in order to connect the microscopic dynamics with the macroscopic behavior.
