Abstract

Analysis of the operating and design principles of an LTE handset antenna is carried out. The antenna utilises a combination of fed and aperture-matched radiators that are located close to each other physically and electrically. These radiators, together with fixed matching circuits, provide good matching and efficiency performance at LTE frequencies 698-960 MHz and 1.7 GHz upwards. The effect of individual parts or components on the antenna performance is analysed. Results of the current work provide general design rules that can be applied to other implementations as well, with an emphasis on getting as good a low-band performance as possible.
