Abstract

In the paradigm of anomalous reflection and transmission, acoustic metasurfaces based on a linear 2π-phase gradient do not provide perfect coupling between the incident plane wave and the desired reflected or transmitted wave. In this paper we introduce a general approach to the synthesis of metasurfaces for full control of transmitted and reflected plane waves and show that ideal performance can be realized. The analysis reveals the physical properties of metasurfaces necessary for the implementation of perfect acoustic metasurfaces.
