Abstract
OBJEKTI 6 – WILD WEST
Contemporary sculpture, installations, comix and paintings in Espoo Centre 10.6.-6.9.2020
The theme for OBJEKTI 6 exhibition this year is WILD WEST. The theme highlights some symbolic meanings attached to Espoon keskus as a wild place in between the railroad, historical Kuninkaantie and the idyllic Espoo river surrounded by the park scenery and the cathedral. In addition to the mythical reputation, Wild West refers to rapid urbanisation, building and the rapid growth of population inducing cultural rupture that has a major effect on the daily life of Espoo citizens as part of the globalization process of the entire capital region.
The artists taking part in the OBJEKTI exhibition use their art works to analyze the cultural, social and ecological questions of our times through the means of art. The exhibition aims to enliven the Espoo Centre area and bring comfort to inhabitants by the means of art.
The purpose of OBJEKTI exhibition is to bring surprising joy to local residents. We, as the curators and producers of the exhibition, wish that the artworks installed in the urban environment would offer exciting emotional and intellectual experiences and revelations, allowing us to encounter our daily life surroundings from new perspectives.
Surprising juxtapositions, new materials, forms, spaces and proportions installed into the urban landscape may provoke positive feelings, or maybe even irritate viewers. Art can touch, intercept, and open new avenues for interpretation and generate a wider conversation about the flora of meanings attached to our environment.
The exhibition is free. It is targeted to all the people living, working and visiting Espoo Centre. The exhibition has been curated and produced by visual artists Andy Best and Merja Puustinen, MEET Factory Oy.
