Nanosized Al2O3-ZrO2(Y2O3) nanopowders and their processing

Abstract

Nanosized spherical ZrO2(Y2O3)Al2O3 nanoparticles with the specific surface areain the range of 28 - 45 m2/g containing t-, m-ZrO2 and weekly crystallized δ-, θ-Al2O3 wereprepared by a thermal plasma technique. Small crystallite size of ZrO2 and the presence ofAl2O3 promotes stabilization of t-ZrO2. The prepared powders were consolidated by sparkplasma sintering process. The highest relative density in the range of the 97.0-99.2% wereobtained by using additionally calcinated at 1300 °C powders containing α-Al2O3.
