My Public Living Room: A workshop and Exhibition

Abstract

In 2013 as a postdoctoral researcher conducting fieldwork in Toronto, I approached the NGO SKETCH Working Arts to collaborate on a project based on my installation OLOHUONE in 2004 in Helsinki Railway Station for my PhD in Taik. The reception of the idea was positive and after a lot of negotiations and fine-tuning we agreed on organising a workshop with young, street-involved aspiring art and cultural producers. The workshop took place in June 2014 and the result of that workshop was exhibited in a public park next to the OCADUniversity, in downtown Toronto, daily for a few days. This work has informed my research into public space and inclusion, I have presented in one scientific article and use it in my teaching material.
