    Abstract

Mother, Child is an interactive media installation. It consists of a video projection of an infant, seen from the nursing mother's point of view. As such, it stages an affective encounter with a human and a machine an audiovisual system with a very limited amount of intelligence. The installation draws on the idea of projection on two levels: First, the video projection posits the spectator into visual and spatial relation with the image. Second, this relation gains its power from the psychical process of projection where the spectator will find his or her wishes and fears fulfilled by the image.
