Abstract

A model for viscosity, sintering stress, densification rate, Poison's rate has been developed for sintering of functionally gradated hard metals. In order to optimise sintering process of WC-Co hard metals, first all parameters of sintering kinetics like viscosity for those hard metal materials have been determined experimentally with a 2-D optical dilatometer to develop sintering modelling. The parameters has been applied directly for a finite element simulation of FGM hard metal plate for sintering process. As a example, a sintering simulation of WC-Co graded plate have been done to explore variation of process parameters for optimisation of sintering. It was shown that optimal green density distribution together with cobalt and grain size gradients retain. flat shape of the plate, and this combination also decreases thermal stresses.
