Abstract
Mix it Up! Exhibition presented a series of novel interpretations that built upon historical artworks in the collections of the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK). The 13 invited artists and designers explored and experimented with artworks at the SMK. The collections span 700 years of art history, presenting works from Denmark, Europe, and the rest of the world. A large share of these collections are in the public domain. They are part of our shared cultural heritage and have been around for so long that their copyright has expired. Therefore, they can freely be re-used as raw materials in new artistic practices. The exhibition was organized in collaboration between the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK), Europeana Creative and Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture.
