Abstract

MAN MACHINES Media artist and architect Jaakko Pesonen´s video installation exhibition explores the minds, beliefs, prejudice and attitudes effects on humanity. The subjects of the portraits are victims and heroes - past, present and future. HELLO HOMO! Three characters (acted by Laura Birn, Vera Kiiskinen and Sara Paavolainen) present online comments on homosexuality as tragicomic everyday beliefs and offer you a personal encounter with prejudice. ALAN01 The themes of Alan01 relate to the life of Alan Turing (1912-1954). Turing was a heroic wartime code-breaker and pioneer of computer science who was persecuted for his homosexuality. Alan Turings theories on mathematics, logic and artificial intelligence served as an inspiration for the installation. Hannu Kivioja acts the part of Alan Turing. NEW MODEL ARMY The six screen installation deals with the economical and cultural shift between the East and the West. New Model Army consists of footage shot in the India Fashion Week 2012. TERRORIST Gender, race and even the norms of humanity are scrutinized in a kaleidoscope of theatrical anti-drag characters. The installation has been made in collaboration with the non-conformist artist Tatu Vuolteenaho. Alan01 and Hello Homo! are Aalto University, Department of Media, Crucible Studio research group productions that have been concepted together with the studio's artistic director Mika 'Lumi' Tuomola.
